What are Nootropics?

Nootropic compounds are generally any neuro-enhancing drugs or natural supplements with a very low prevalence of side effects.

The original description comes from the Belgian pharmacologists S. Giurgea and V. Skondia, who invented the first nootropic in 1963, a component known as Piracetam.

They have defined the classification of nootropics to refer to cognitively enhancing substances with extremely low toxicity for long-term use.

How exactly do nootropics work?

Just like “smart drugs,” your intelligence quotient will not increase immediately, or your intellect will improve immediately. But they can increase your brain function by increasing the production and signaling of various neurotransmitters.

Your brain is essentially a huge network of billions of neurons connected by synapses. This network works and communicates, simply said, through chemicals, also called neurotransmitters.
